The butlers were great at getting reservations for the rest of the week but, this was a change for us to decide on a restaurant and a time in advance instead of what we might we may be in the mood for every night. At the Grand we were able to make the first 3 nights via email prior to our arrival ,which I would recommend. For example: 1) At Secrets you don't need reservations for dinner. There are a few things that I prefer at Secrets but they are things that wouldn't stop me from returning to the Grand and they may not be important to others. We also went to the Iberostar Grand in September and we loved it.

Not me but, my family and I've read reviews stating this, which I find amusing. SA has a lot more foliage which seems to confuse some people while navigating the resort. SM has 2 pools versus the 3 pools at SA, including the Zen pool. (But, it's not a snorkeling beach.) We have had fantastic service at both resorts. The beach is more private there and it's beautiful. For a 3 day trip I would definitely pick SM to save the drive time. We look at prices and pick the one that is better priced for the dates we are available. I like SA a tad better and my husband and sister like SM a little more. We have been to SA and SM 4 times each and I think that you will love SM.

Not fuss about the gym or spa, more the ambience, look of the resort, the room, the food.Īny advice whatsoever much appreciated - this will be the only vacation for us for the 1st half of the year. Which is larger in terms of footprint, guests & which better for food? We will spring for preferred club for either, although in truth, neither of us actually drink v much & will never snack in between meals even on vacation. We've not been to SMB, but heard good things about it, & quite like the Secrets experience. We have literally 3days 2nd week of January for a short vacation - both of us have jobs/lives that really do not allow much downtime - & wondered which is 'better', for a stressed-out couple in early 40s, who enjoy a little luxury & usually prefer a larger resort type hotel than a smaller boutique experience. We have stayed at SA 3years back & really enjoyed the 'standard' Secrets experience, the outstanding service by absolutely everyone & the added bonus of swimming with turtles.
